Starts at Barrow Bridge bus turning circle

The tradition of marking Walt Whitman’s birthday was revived in the 1980s when members of Bolton Socialist Club took to the moors sporting sprigs of lilac, copies of Leaves of Grass and some wine to sup from the “loving cup.” The commemoration has continued every year since. In this bicentenary year the walk will start as usual at Barrow Bridge bus circle and wend its way to the Woodland Trust’s new car park at Walker Fold. From here it's a 200 metre stroll to a picnic spot where we’ll enjoy readings from Walt, music from the Clarion Choir and Nat Clare as well as supping from the loving cup. Bring friends, a picnic and open hearts and minds.
Buses: The 526 leaves Bolton Interchange for Barrow Bridge at 1.20, arriving at 1.50 pm. Please check for changes to timetable.
